Ryan & Marie's Wedding Invitation

Wedding Invitation

2003

I had to find some way to at least match our Save The Date card's popularity, so I decided to make our wedding invite into a small hardcover book, sort of like a photo album. This way, guests could feel like they are looking into an old personal photo album. It also supplied enough of our background to let guests who may know nothing about us (the guests of our friends, or our parent's friends) get an idea of who we both are, where we're from, how we met each other, and how we became engaged. This was a hit or miss project, but the response was tremendous. People cried. Strangers sent me email to tell me they thought it was great and to wish us well. People sent RSVP's via email so they could keep the envelope intact on its page. I was asked if it's possible to steam off the outer seal to avoid tearing it open. People got directions from the internet rather than untie the map we supplied for them. A picture of the map is here. I've never received such positive feedback to anything I've ever made before. I've made a Flash presentation of the entire invite, showing the whole book from cover to cover. You can view our wedding invitation here. Enjoy!

Save the Date Postcard

Save the Date Postcard

2003

Marie and I wanted something a little different for our Save the Date announcement. Something other than a scripty, onion-papered thing with a bow on it. I took a classic movie poster (Casablanca, 1942 Belgian lobby card) and re-worked it with us as the stahs. It went over really well. You can click here to see a larger, more detailed version.

2000 Promotional Book

2000

Design a résumé that's more than a résumé. I made 20 of these - handmade cloth-bound covers, transparent pages, easy instructions for hiring me, and a business card to boot. Although they are now hopelessly outdated the books don't include anything about my web skills), they still showcase my skills with print, and my ability to come up with a creative solution to an overly clichéd and boring thing - the résumé. The books measure 4.75" tall by 5" wide. They're roughly based on the old Atlas ads in vintage comic books - muscle heads, sand in the face, etc. That, combined with a Circus-like look through the choice of typefaces, combined to make a fun book that received positive responses from everyone who has seen one.

Churchill Communications Wine Label

1999

Design wine label for communications company. These wine bottles were distribued to top clients during the Christmas season. They previously had had a cartoon and wanted to get away from that. I went with old woodcuts and a classic image of Santa, jazzed up with an iBook and a cell phone, which tie in nicely as both great things to get for Christmas, and the networking nature of the company's business. I also had a hand in optimizing the images and streamlining the overall loading time of their website.
